Job description: Function as telecommunications telephone technician and supervisor to carry out daily operations 24-7. Install, rearrange, and repair of analog, digital and IP phones with connection to AVAYA Communication Manager 5.2.1 PBX with voice mail, paging system and wireless phones. Ensure that all telephone closets are maintained, wired properly and neat in appearance. Supervise all Operators and Telephone Techs. Work closely with the Information System Department in supporting the departmental needs. Fill in to provide coverage as needed to meet the changing of schedule due to planned and unexpected situations (PTO, Holiday, etc.). Provide training and technical expertise on the usage of phone equipment and voice mail system. Supervise staff, observe performance, and communicate necessary corrective measures to the Director. Provide direction to the new hires
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate’s degree preferred.
Experience
- 3-4 years Experience working for a telephone company, as a telephone technician and/or working technical supervisor lead required.
- 1-2 years Experience working with pbx and voice mail systems, large phone switchboard, programming of phone switches and call accounting software required.

- Ability to access, comprehend and follow the policies and procedures for MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center.
- Ability to read, write and speak or communicate in English to successfully accomplish the essential duties of the position.

- Ensure that all telephone closets are maintained, wired properly and neat in appearance. Work closely with the Information System Department in supporting the departmental needs.
- Maintain AMCOM PBX Phone System with updated addresses, pagers, and cell information. Maintain all programs related to the system. Review as necessary for associate participation, schedules submitted, etc.
- Install, rearrange, and repair of analog, digital and IP phones with connection to AVAYA Communications Manager 5.2.1 PBX with voice mail, paging system and wireless phones.
- Maintain SPOK Intellisuite System with updated addresses, pagers, and cell information.
- Maintain all programs related to the system.
- Enter all transactions in computer for hospital digital telephone systems.
- Develop and maintain monthly spreadsheets for annual reports.
- Provide training and technical expertise on the usage of phone equipment and voice mail system to hospital users.
- Audit all statements associated with the department (phones, pagers, and language equipment) and submits them to the Director approval.
- Research information (numbers, titles, etc.) for all in house phone directories. Update via intranet as needed.
- Supervise Operators and Telephone Techs, observes performance, and reports any corrective measures to the Director of Clinical Systems, I.S. (Director) when necessary.
- Provide direction to the new hire, switchboard operators.
- Inform and instruct switchboard operators on all hospital policies and procedures.
- Coordinate schedules for staffing each shift, weekly and submits to the Director for approval.
- Compose monthly tests for switchboard operations competency reports.
- Order office supplies.
- Maintain attendance for each employee’s folders for PTO and holiday time off. Document all issues (late, etc.) and submit to Director for discussion and actions needed.
- Maintain availability to assist in the event that a switchboard operator does not report to work.
- Cover the switchboard while other switchboard operators break.
- Available to support the Director by making sure that all emergency situations are covered, office is properly staffed, and any and all situations are researched and completed. Communication is the most important concept to support this team. Present at all times for discussion and actions needed to correct as necessary all issues with staff, hospital problems, and outside concerns. Perform all other related duties as assigned. Participate in rotating weekend on-call program.
