Job description: SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the design, development, and enhancement of electro- mechanical components and systems used throughout the manufacturing system.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Support Engineering department in the design and development of electro- mechanical components for diverse manufacturing equipment such as Automated Assembly machines, Plastic Injection Molding machines, tooling, and auxiliary equipment, Stamping presses, tooling, and equipment, Electroplating drive gears and equipment, and CNC Swiss Screw machine support equipment.
- Conceptualizes, develops, designs, and coordinates process improvements throughout the manufacturing process.
- Support equipment maintenance staff in the design and development of electro-mechanical components and systems.
- Collaborate with the engineering staff to produce design sketches and drawings in accordance with applicable standards using SolidWorks and other CAD systems.
- Diagnoses, dis-assembles, re-assembles parts/components in equipment/devices, when applicable, for both existing equipment and new.
- Review and verify design drawings and other technical documentation prepared by others to ensure correctness and accuracy in form, fit and function.
- Complies with Company and area safety policies and practices.
- Supports and fosters active participation in, and complies with, corporate values as outlined in the Corporate Values and Expectations Handbook.
- Awareness of job related environmental impacts.

JOB SCOPE
This position has a level of responsibility for the design, development, improvement, and implementation of new and existing manufacturing systems to improve safety, quality, productivity, and/or other company performance metrics.
SUPERVISORY/BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but is accountable to coordinate small teams for product development and training of new processes and products.
INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS
Contacts are normally made with others both inside and outside the Company and are often made with suppliers, other departments or company and subsidiary locations. Contacts may contain extensive discussion about highly confidential or sensitive matters. Of the contacts 40% are face to face and 60% are via telephone or other electronic communication devices.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS * Capable of using personal computer and related CAD/other software.
- Must understand written and verbal communication.
- Must have planning and problem analysis skills.
- Must be able to handle multiple and diverse priorities.
- Must be able to make decisions regarding design issues that will have a direct effect on the company and has the ability to analyze the results of these decisions.
- Must be able to relate and communicate at all levels of the organization and other JAE locations globally.
- Must be able to perform high levels of mathematical calculation and analysis.
REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND/OR EXPERIENCE * Three plus years in a electro-mechanical design and development capacity in a manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor degree in an engineering discipline related to connector technology or equivalent experience and education.
- Demonstrated problem solving, continuous improvement and project management skills.
- Demonstrated or proven design and process development skills.
- Superior understanding of CAD software, including SolidWorks.
- Computer proficiency with applicable software programs required.
- Ability to learn quickly and utilize industry information to compliment production and company goals.
- Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Effective cross-cultural awareness, sensitivity and work practices.
- Demonstrated ability to work and develop relationships with current and potential customers.
COMPETENCIES * Ability to make sound decisions in regards to planning, problem solving, and new process development.
- Ability to successfully design machine components, or redesign, improve, and/or modify existing components.
- Design Skills: 3-D modeling, Drawing/Drafting skills (2- D representation) & GDT.
- Design Analyses: Finite element, Tolerance Analyses, fit analyses, mating simulation, and knowledge of reliability testing.
- DFMEA, DFM and DFA
- Computer and communication skills: Power-point presentations, Excel, and MS word.
- Working understanding of ISO9001 / IATF16949 / ISO14001 and VDA 6.3 requirements.
- Working understanding of basic statistical concepts such as Control, Capability, Variation and Over-adjustment
- Working understanding of basic quality techniques (Fishbone, Pareto, 8D, Cause and Effect)
- Working understanding of customer required AIAG Core Tools (MSA, PPAP, FMEA, APQP, SPC)
- Working understanding of systems and processes (Inputs, Outputs, Support Functions)
- Must be competent to achieve design requirements and skilled in applicable tools and techniques
- Must be able to understand, communicate, and pass-through customer specific requirements (CSR’s)
JOB CONDITIONS
This position requires approximately 5% travel, mainly domestic, but some international. This position normally performs its duties during regular business hours, although travel and meetings may occur outside regular hours.
