Salary Range: $130K-$165K

The person in this role will lead our food service logistics operations in multiple markets, including Southern California and metropolitan areas throughout the Southwest. This person is responsible for ensuring on-time and accurate deliveries to customers while managing costs and upholding our strict standards for product quality and safety. The scope of this operation includes a private delivery fleet of over 100 vans, trucks and trailers, outsourced transportation moves, and up to 1,400 daily deliveries. This position reports to the VP, Logistics.

Specific Responsibilities

· Manage team of managers, supervisors, coordinators and drivers collectively responsible for customer deliveries as well as inbound movements from consolidators and suppliers in Southern California

  • Manage line-haul / transfer truck moves between Rancho Dominguez and satellite cross-docks throughout the Southwest

· Focus on planning and execution of delivery routes to food service customers generally and to large grocery customers and CRSD (Case Ready Seafood Division) routes within Southern California

· Ensure team members have the tools they need to do their jobs effectively

· Negotiate with outside carriers used for line haul, delivery and parcel moves

· Oversee use of our routing / dispatch and fleet telematics systems to plan and dispatch routes, track vehicles, safety and environmental conditions, gather data and compute metrics

· Ensure drivers and operations meet or exceed DOT, food safety and other regulations

· Work closely with manager peers including the fleet and safety manager and route planning / delivery performance manager

· Compute, share, monitor and improve metrics including cost per stop, on-time performance, planned vs. actual, inbound lbs., redeliveries, safety score and others

· Provide guidance and escalation for personnel issues within the team

· Organize monthly all supervisor video meetings and annual visit of supervisors to Rancho

· Mentor and train direct reports to improve skills and knowledge

· Organize periodic driver education and safety meetings

· Be aware of and the escalation point for supervisors for safety incidents, employee non-compliance, and similar situations

· Support launching of operations in new locations

· Identify, propose, gain approval, plan and execute continuous improvement opportunities

· Meet periodically with VP, Logistics to review and confirm goals, programs and standards for food service logistics

· Hybrid role – in-office 5x week to start, then at least 3x per week once performing all required aspects of the role

· Travel 2x year to each satellite location, typically for 2-3 days each

· Other similar duties, as identified

Candidate Background

· Bachelor’s degree

· 7+ years’ experience in logistics including management of direct / indirect managers, supervisors, coordinators and/or front-line employees

· Previous food or cold chain distribution experience (preferred)

· Ability to compute, understand and manage to safety and operation performance metrics

· Ability to lift or move up to 50 lbs. with or without material handling equipment or other persons

· Travel expected up to 15%

Expected salary: $130000 – 165000 per year
