Job description: SMX is seeking a part time (20+ hours per week) Juniper System Administrator to provide technical support services in an enterprise network environment to the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) Webster Outlying Field (WOLF), Special Communications Mission Solutions (SCMS) Division to support a subset of Tactical and Remote C5I Edge Systems (TARCES) projects including legacy, current and next generation telecommunication and related communications-electronics (C-E) systems requirements and the design, development, integration, test and evaluation, and fielding of those systems, subsystems, and components.

This position requires a DoD security clearance which requires US citizenship for work on a DoD contract.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain the Juniper system administration and various computer and network components
  • Perform software updates and patches on all components weekly or as required to meet cyber security requirements
  • Ensure system backups are performed and maintained
  • Provide helpdesk-type services to local and remote customers to ensure functionality, perform repairs as needed, document faults and findings, and coordinate equipment replacement if required
  • Perform system changes modifications to the system as requested by the assigned Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) to ensure cyber security compliance
  • Coordinate with system Subject Matter Experts for advanced application troubleshooting

Required Skills, Education & Experience

  • Required Clearance: Secret
  • Three (3) or more years of applicable work experience and a bachelor’s degree or a qualifying substitution
  • Bachelor’s degree can be substituted with associate degree plus four (4) years of applicable work experience, or no degree plus six (6) years of applicable work experience
  • Current Security+ or equivalent DoD8570/8140 IAT level-II certification to meet the Navy Cybersecurity Workforce requirements
  • Three (3) or more years of experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Avaya voice over internet protocol (VoIP) and private branch exchange (PBX) telephony equipment
  • AND/OR
  • Three (3) or more years of experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Juniper network equipment
  • Troubleshooting skills
  • Basic network and telephony skills
  • Ability to communicate efficiently
  • Ability to work within PowerShell
  • Able to work well independently and with a team

Desired Skills, Education & Experience

  • Preference to Enterprise Juniper Network Certification such as Juniper Networks Certified Internet Associate (JNCIA), Juniper Networks Certified Internet Specialist (JNCIS), or Juniper Networks Certified Internet Professional (JNCIP) certification holders.
  • Preference to Computer Science/IT bachelor’s degree for future advancement
  • Experience with Avaya server administration
  • Experience with Milestone and Lenel server administration
  • Experience with basic network administration functions
  • Experience with database management
