Job description: This position leads global PEKK business focused on Business and Industrial development of Kepstan Polymer (PEKK) in the aerospace and industrial markets and to the management of an excellent production unit in Mobile, AL. This includes responsibility for the business strategy, sales and marketing plans, development and delivery of the annual budget, monthly S&OP process and P&L review, as well as close coordination with the global R&D team and manufacturing operations in Mobile, AL to enable a successful scale up of this activity. This position reports directly to NA Regional Group President, High Performance Polymers functionally to New Growth Director – Polyamides (In France) and has three direct reports (1 EU, 2 US) in Business Development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Business management

  • Set global strategy, development priorities, pricing and marketing plan to execute growth plan for Kepstan®
  • Create and deliver annual budget with monthly P&L review
  • Manage product allocations and monthly S&OP process
  • Develop sales and profit forecasts. Implement and manage strategy execution as well as the tactics and action plans supporting the strategy.
  • Manage global business development team with regular pipeline reviews
  • Work closely with SPA market managers for 3D printing and Powder coating to accelerate growth
  • Develop strong relationships with key North American accounts and strategic global customers (e.g. EOS)
  • Own and manage sales contracts
  • Select and manage distributors in NA and Europe
  • Represent Kepstan® globally inside HPP and externally at key customers, tradeshows and conferences
  • Lead development of marketing communication plans for PEKK business. Oversee communication & promotional events & activities (e.g., press releases, messaging, digital, trade shows). Oversee product specifications and documentation, including website

R&D

  • Follow R&D related activities to assure excellent coordination of actions between Europe and the US and adjust resources in function of business priorities and market demand
  • Work closely with Corporate R&D team on LT programs and optimize allocation of resources
  • Ensure appropriate IP management
  • Coordinate efforts to find external funding or partnerships to accelerate development

Operations

  • Act as the BU representative to the plant
  • Coordinate regularly with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply chain & R&D teams to ensure smooth operations
  • Drive HES culture and focus on zero recordable and lost time accidents within the PEKK business.
  • Monitor risks and coordinate to resolve regulatory, organisational or operational issues if they arise
  • Ensure alignment between Industrial (capex) roadmap and business strategy / market demand
  • Follow subcontracting activities (compounding – grinding) in terms of quality and cost performance.
  • Develop and continually strive to improve the organization and processes

CONTEXT

Arkema is a leader in high performance polymers and PEKK is a strategic growth opportunity in ultra-high temperature polymers with high value niche applications in aerospace, 3DP, metal coating, medical and industrial markets.

To successfully create and operate a profitable Kepstan business from its current “start-up” status, with high-value applications (3D printing, powder coating, medical, aerospace) and strong customer relationships.

  • Expectations of this position is 30-50% travel domestically and internationally.
  • Position calls for regular interaction with (as well as travel to) Europe & Asia (2x / yr.)
  • Position routinely interfaces with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply chain & R&D teams
  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS or Master’s Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer or Materials Science, or direct work as a technical professional in a related field of polymers. MBA is preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in Technical Business Development role with management experience
  • Knowledge of polymer processing, polymer formulation and technical service is a plus.
  • Project management experience is a strong plus

  • Strong communication and presentation skills are required, ability to generate short presentations that quickly make a point
  • Demonstrated ability to manage activities with limited resources in a complex and dynamic global organization
  • High level of written and oral competency including experience in writing technical articles and papers
  • Ability to reliably assist in the draft of Papers and Articles suitable for publication
  • Demonstrated ability to manage activities with limited resources in a complex and dynamic global organization
  • Demonstrated social skills including arrangement of casual entertainment such as group presentations, small lunches or dinners.
  • Ability to organize effective product and process design seminars
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Computer software proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and SAP are required.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Detail oriented, with excellent prioritization and follow-up.
