Job description: Loyola’s Project for the Innocent (“LPI”) is seeking to hire a contract staff attorney to begin as soon as possible. The staff attorney will investigate, evaluate and litigate claims of wrongful conviction and/or innocence. The position involves investigating and litigating both new and existing LPI cases. Full time or part time will be considered.
Loyola’s Project for the Innocent (“LPI”) is seeking to hire a contract staff attorney to begin as soon as possible. The staff attorney will investigate, evaluate and litigate claims of wrongful conviction and/or innocence. The position involves investigating and litigating both new and existing LPI cases. Counsel will be responsible for developing and implementing investigation plans and litigation strategies, which often includes compiling case records, evaluating police reports and other crucial case documents, locating and interviewing witnesses, and drafting witness statements. The attorney will also prepare legal memoranda, motions, petitions for writs of habeas corpus and other legal documents related to their case, as well as make necessary court appearances and participating in evidentiary hearings. Staff attorneys participate in student supervision, including monitoring students’ work on cases and their screening of submitted cases.

Qualifications:
Member of California State Bar, at least 2 years of litigation experience, familiarity with California criminal justice system.
