Oversees the accounting practices for all accounting functions within the Board of Education to insure compliance with federal, state, and local financial guidelines and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This position reports to the Coordinator of Finance.
Oversees all aspects of accounting functions for the school District. Makes, analyzes and/or reviews all general ledger accounting entries including transfers, tax payments and employee benefits and deductions. Establishes new funds and account codes as needed.
Responsible for month end and year end closing processes. Prepares monthly financial reports and statements for the Board of Education and others as needed. Coordinates with outside financial auditors and provides information and schedules necessary for completion of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
Balances and reconciles revenue and expenditure reports to the general ledger and cash and investment accounts to bank statements. Processes and reconciles P-card payments to the general ledger.
Provides assistance and support to all aspects of the accounts payable function and general ledger maintenance. Approves the release of purchase orders and check requests. Provides assistance to vendors.
All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university required.
Minimum of five (5) years of professional accounting experience in a school or governmental environment required.
Knowledge of generally accepted Accounting principles. Makes recommendations which impact District-wide projects, financial planning, accountability, and compliance
Makes decisions and recommendations under the guidance and supervision of the Coordinating Supervisor.
Requires regular, frequent contact with internal and external personnel (colleagues, Coordinators, Mangers, Administrators, etc.) of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance; requires continuing contact with officials at higher levels. Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with inter-organizational teams.
Able to communicate information between the District and external entities as needed.
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, AS400, Pivot Tables and Charts, and Google products and applications. Knowledge of Tyler Munis ERP preferred.
Normal office setting.
NOTE: This is a grade 23, 225 day position.
